The movie premier of Perks of Being a Wallflower is fast approaching and I am sure that I am not the only who is absolutely excited! For those of you who haven’t read the book (first of all get on that!) it is really a coming of age novel about a young teenager named Charlie. The book is written in a way more personal then a diary, it is written in the form of letters that Charlie has written to an unknown individual. The names are changed so that the person receiving the letter doesn’t know when “Charlie” is talking about, making it possible for Charlie to express his deepest emotions and feelings without anyone finding out. It is an outlet for Charlie to share his experiences. He writes about him and his rag tag group of friends and the things he learns about making it through life. With surprising plot twists and unexpected outcomes it is a fantastic read, especially for teenagers who are really trying to figure themselves out. The movie, which is coming out on Christmas 2012, stars Ezra Miller, Logan Lerman, Nina Dobrev, Mae Whitman, Emma Watson, and more amazing actors. The movie is being directed by the write of the novel, Stephen Chbosky. I find this absolutely fantastic because you get the chance to first handedly experience exactly what the writer of the book was trying to express and what imagery he was trying to create within his novel.
The movie is one that will hopefully be remembered for its comedy, drama, ability to express life experiences, and relatable content. A sure to be classic coming of age movie.
